The Major League Soccer club confirmed on Saturday that they have signed RB Leizig's Forsberg on a three-year deal. His current contract will run through 2026 but the club have an option to extend it by one more year.

The MLS club released an official statement confirming their acquisition of the Sweden international that read: "The New York Red Bulls have completed the transfer of Swedish midfielder Emil Forsberg from RB Leipzig and have signed him to a three-year contract through 2026 with an option for 2027 on December 16, 2023."
New NYRB head coach Sandro Schwarz was elated to bring in an experienced player like Forsberg as he said: "Emil’s experience in Europe will be very valuable to the locker room and we are looking forward to welcoming him to the club. He is a great attacking midfielder who will provide much value to our midfield this season.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The 32-year-old joined the German club in 2015 from Malmo and spent the last seven and a half seasons at the club where he won the DFB-Pokal twice and the DFL-Supercup once. In the ongoing season, the midfielder appeared in 20 matches across all competitions where he scored three goals and provided one assist.

The fixtures for the 2024 MLS season are likely to be released before the end of the current calendar year and the new season is likely to commence around late February or early March. For now, the club will plan for the upcoming MLS Superdraft which will be held on Tuesday.
