Jermain Defoe scored the fourth and final goal in a devastating 4-0 rout over Marseille on Sunday, and the Rangers fans can’t quite believe what they saw from the 36-year-old striker in the pre-season friendly.
Defoe’s strike was unusual in that the former Spurs and Portsmouth poacher managed to convert Sheyi Ojo’s sumptuous cross with his head, stooping low to glance home. That didn’t stop him hilariously calling it a “towering header” on Twitter though.
The 5 foot 6 striker is far from renowned for scoring headers – Transfermarkt make this latest strike just his seventh career headed goal – and the Rangers faithful are fully aware they witnessed something of a collector’s item at Ibrox on Sunday.

Defoe has netted eight goals at Ibrox since arriving in January and his pre-season form has been brilliant, giving his manager Steven Gerrard a lot to think about.
Last season Alfredo Morelos was Gerrard’s clear first-choice striker, but with rumours he could be leaving, Defoe is stepping up and showing how important he can be for the Gers going forward.
