According to Football Insider, talks have started between Leeds United and Fulham for the potential transfer of Adam Forshaw.
Due to their lack of depth in the position, the Whites should sign a new midfielder to replace Forshaw, but perhaps their potential additon should actually be in a different mould to the former Middlesbrough man.
What’s the story?
Fulham have been linked with a move for the 27-year-old for some time now, but it seems as if the deal is edging closer to completion after this latest update.
The Football Insider article states that Leeds will want to recoup the £4.5m they spent on the Englishman back in 2018.
That fee can be spent on a new man in his position, but United shouldn’t be looking for a like-for-like replacement.
More like Phillips
If Leeds are to bring in a new midfielder in place of Forshaw, then they should be aiming for someone whose style is more akin to the way Kalvin Phillips plays.
Forshaw isn’t a player who can perform in the same way as the youngster due to the physical demands of his role, but a new signing could provide further depth in his position.
Of course, it will be tough to find someone who can play like Phillips for around £4.5m as the dominating midfielder has already been the subject of a £14m bid, but Victor Orta and Andrea Radrizzani should find someone who can slot into his role when he is injured or suspended.

Leeds looked a different side when the 23-year-old wasn’t on the pitch last season, losing three of the four games he didn’t play, and that must change next term if they want to get promoted.
