Frank McAvennie has offered his reaction to some Glasgow Rangers injury news involving Ryan Jack.
The Lowdown: Another setback
Giovanni van Bronckhorst confirmed in his pre-game press conference before they beat Hibernian 2-0 at home on Wednesday night that Jack had suffered another injury setback, this time a problem with his ankle.
The central midfield player has been plagued with injury issues ever since arriving at Ibrox, and this is just the latest one to have ruled him out for a match.
The Latest: McAvennie reacts
Speaking to Football Insider, former Scottish Premiership striker McAvennie has now given his reaction to the injury news:
“It must be good for the fans to see Ryan Jack back.
“It just seems like he can’t shake this little injury and that is a blow for Rangers.
“He looked very bright when I saw him at Celtic Park in the Old Firm. It was the perfect time for him to come on.
“I don’t know how bad this injury is but it’s worrying that he can’t quite get fully fit, I’m gutted for him.
“He’s a game-changer for Rangers. I have said before I am a fan of his. Scotland miss him when he isn’t there.
“Rangers have plenty of quality in that midfield so I’m sure they will be fine but not having Jack there is far from ideal for them.”
The Verdict: Blow indeed
It certainly is a blow for the Teddy Bears that Jack has picked up another issue, given van Bronckhorst’s praise for him when he came on against Celtic in the Old Firm derby. The boss said he was ‘the best man on the pitch in the second half’, adding that he ‘changed’ the game and ‘made a big difference’ (Rangers TV via Yahoo).
With nine goals and nine assists in the SPFL for the Gers, and 19 appearances in their title-winning campaign, Jack has already shown on numerous occasions how important he is to the team, but these constant setbacks have meant that he has never been able to get a consistent run.
Nonetheless, the Light Blues will now be hoping that his injury is not serious, and that he will be back and available to help clinch another title.
