Ratcliffe's reasoning was that, at one of his other companies, email traffic dropped by 20 per cent when they experimented with work-from-home Fridays, according to . However, staff have ridiculed the decision as they see it as short-sighted and have said there is not enough room to accommodate all employees in the Manchester and London offices.

The new United part-owner is said to have warned staff that they should look for a new job if they have a problem with the decision. He reportedly said at the meeting: "If you don’t like it, please seek alternative employment."
